Civil Society Town Hall with WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros
Webinar, May 26th, 2020 – Together with Global Health Council US, RESULTS, Civil Society Engagement Mechanism for UHC 2030 and WACI Health, Action for Global Health co-hosted a Civil Society Town Hall with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Director-General (DG) Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and leaders from the global health community. This private virtual event convened over 130 civil society leaders from across 33 countries to discuss the role of civil society in the COVID-19 response.
Speakers included Loyce Pace, President & Executive Director, Global Health Council; Esther Njoroge, Advisory Group Member, CSEM for UHC2030; Dr. Tedros, DG, WHO; Katie Husselby, Coordinator, Action for Global Health; and Rosemary Mburu, Executive Director, WACI Health.
During the town hall, WHO’s Dr. Tedros committed to more regular engagement and invited civil society leaders to the table to discuss solutions. Quoting a recent rapid survey of 175 civil society organisations from 56 countries, he said, “The involvement of civil society is nowhere to be seen. 70% have reported having minor to no involvement. Addressing that is going to be very important”.
